At Hot Comps, fairness and transparency are at the heart of every competition we run.

Every competition is conducted using a fully random and independently verifiable process. From the moment your ticket is allocated through to the selection of the winning ticket, neither Hot Comps nor any entrant can predict or influence the outcome.

Whether you enter online or by free postal entry, every valid entry is treated equally and has exactly the same chance of winning.

Equal Chance For Every Entry

Every valid entry submitted before the competition closes is allocated a unique ticket number.

Paid online entries and valid free postal entries are processed using exactly the same ticket allocation system and carry identical odds of winning.

Every allocated ticket represents one entry into the draw and has an equal chance of being selected as the winner.

Random Ticket Allocation

Every valid entry, whether submitted online or by free postal entry, is entered into the same ticket allocation process.

When an entry is processed, our system randomly allocates one of the remaining available ticket numbers.

Ticket numbers are:

  • randomly allocated;

  • never issued sequentially;

  • never manually assigned by Hot Comps;

  • unable to be selected or requested by entrants; and

  • unable to be altered once allocated.

This means neither Hot Comps nor any entrant can predict, influence or choose which ticket number will be assigned to an entry.

Independent Winner Selection

Once a competition closes (or sells out where applicable), the winning ticket is selected using Verified Random, an independent third-party random draw platform.

Verified Random is powered by the drand public randomness beacon, a distributed public randomness network operated by the League of Entropy.

Because the source of randomness is generated independently after the draw has been committed, neither Hot Comps nor Verified Random can know or influence the winning ticket before the draw takes place.

How Verified Random Works

Before the draw is performed, the competition details and ticket range are committed to Verified Random.

Verified Random then waits for a future randomness value generated by the independent drand network.

That publicly generated random value is then used to calculate the winning ticket number.

Because the random value does not exist at the time the draw is committed, it cannot be predicted, manipulated or influenced by anyone.

Every draw produces verification information that can be independently checked.

Live Draw Competitions

For competitions advertised as Live Draws, the draw is performed live using Verified Random.

The winning ticket is selected during the broadcast using the independently generated random value, allowing entrants to watch the draw take place in real time.

Auto Draw Competitions

For competitions advertised as Auto Draws, exactly the same independently verifiable process is used.

The only difference is that the draw is performed automatically by our system once the competition closes or sells out, rather than during a live broadcast.

The method used to select the winner is identical.

Instant Win Prizes

Instant Win prizes operate separately from the main competition draw.

Before a competition opens, the Instant Win winning ticket numbers are randomly generated and securely assigned across the available ticket range.

When a valid entry is processed, if the randomly allocated ticket number matches one of the predetermined Instant Win winning numbers, the associated Instant Win prize is awarded immediately.

Instant Win prizes do not affect the main competition draw, and every valid entry has an equal opportunity to be allocated any Instant Win winning ticket.
