This weeks gold comp is something a little different. The winner will receive all three of the 1/4 Oz Gold Coins:
1/4 Oz American Eagle
1/4 Oz Britannia
1/4 Oz Krugerrand
American Eagle
The 1/4 ounce American Eagle, the official gold bullion coin of the USA, retains the new reverse design in celebration of 35 years of production. This new American Eagle Gold Coin features an image of the head of an American Bald Eagle, designed by Jennie Norris, on the reverse. The obverse retains the standing figure of Liberty from earlier coins with an updated torch design and an image of the US Capitol Building. Face value of $10 (USD).
First produced in 1987, the dates of these coins were marked in Roman numerals until 1992 when Arabic numerals were then used. Minted from 8.48g of 22 carat (.9167) gold, each coin contains 1/4 Troy Oz or 7.77 grams of Fine Gold.
Britannia
The 2022 quarter ounce Britannia contains 7.775 grams of 999.9 fine Gold and has a face value of £25. Due to the coin’s Legal tender status it is Capital Gains Tax Free. The obverse of the coin depicts HM Queen Elizabeth II with the latest image of Britannia armed with a trident and shield to the reverse.
The 2022 issue coins bear the same basic design as the 2021 coins with Philip Nathan’s Britannia and Jody Clark’s latest portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Britannia’s are the UK’s flagship bullion coins and the new mintage incorporates some subtle but beautiful high-tech changes to produce four new security features:
- Animation Illusion – tiny detail on the coin creates an illusion of moving waves in the image behind Britannia as the coin is moved.
- Tincture lines – a traditional method of suggesting colours and patterns on the surface of precious metals.
- A latent image – similar to a holographic effect with a small image that changes from a padlock to a trident depending on the angle from which it is viewed.
- Micro-engraving – modern laser technology used to incorporate tiny lettering in the coin design which cannot be replicated by conventional minting methods.
The result of these innovations is a mintage of beautiful coins that provide recognisable security features that would be incredibly difficult and expensive to copy. The 2022 Britannia has already generated interest from around the world and looks set to become the most popular Royal Mint Britannia offering yet.
Krugerrand
The 2022 One quarter ounce South African Krugerrand, the world famous and most widely held gold bullion coin. This is coin allows investors to diversify their portfolio with a well known coin in a smaller denomination and features a Springbok on the reverse and Paul Kruger on the obverse. 0.2500 Troy Oz or 7.78 grams of Fine Gold Content.
